The Arkansas Supreme Court heard arguments Thursday over a proposed new casino in Russellville.
Voters approved gambling at four casinos in Arkansas five years ago. Three are up and running.
“I don’t think anyone knew at the time, but that really set off a firestorm,” Scott Hardin, spokesperson for the Arkansas Racing Commission, said. “It was a hot topic then, and it’s a hot topic now.”
In 2018, voters approved Amendment 100 that called for casino gaming at four locations across the state, including Russellville.
Nothing has happened there yet except legal battles in court.
“The litigation has never stopped,” Hardin said.
