The House lawmaker in Illinois who has mounted the most successful effort (so far) to expand igaming in the state said he and other supporters in the General Assembly are already working on plans to introduce new legislation during the next session, which starts in January.
Rep. Edgar Gonzalez Jr. (D-Chicago) introduced HB 2239 in February 2023. It took almost a full year to get the bill assigned to the House Gaming Committee, and it was re-referred to the House Rules Committee last April.
Gonzalez’s bill didn’t make it any further before the legislature recessed on May 24. Lawmakers will meet for two weeks in the fall.
