The Naskila Casino in Polk County, which is run by the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas, is now open.
The casino is in a temporary building with 300 machines and a dining facility open for 24 hours, seven days a week.
The casino opens following a long legal fight. The state of Texas dropped its lawsuit against the tribe in July 2022, allowing the tribe to operate.
“This is just the beginning,” said interim General Manager Keith Sherer. “As I spoke with the tribal citizens yesterday, this is the beginning of the new beginning. So this is really the start of our bigger casino that’s forthcoming.”
