Bill allowing lottery ticket delivery goes to Christie

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) – Residents who want lottery tickets sent to their doorsteps could have them delivered under a bill heading to Gov. Chris Christie.

The state Senate approved a bill Thursday that requires the Lottery Commission to authorize the courier delivery of tickets.

Lawmakers say the measure is aimed at broadening the lottery’s customer base and that state law does not address the delivery of ticket.

Under the measure courier services would have to register with and get authorization from the state Lottery Commission before delivering tickets. They may charge a delivery fee but cannot collect a portion of a prize from a redeemed ticket.

The Assembly passed the same bill in June.
