PLAINVILLE, Mass. (AP) — Officials in Massachusetts and Rhode are projecting the Bay State’s first casino will make less money than expected.
The Boston Globe reports (http://bit.ly/1Rl6SnQ) state budget analysts in Massachusetts have slashed expectations for Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville. They had initially assumed it would produce $262 million in total revenues but revised that to $160 million last month.
Rhode Island state budget analysts, meanwhile, are assuming rival Twin River Casino will generate $35 million more after initially assuming Plainridge would hurt its bottom line, according to the Globe.
Twin River and Plainridge Park are located about 11 miles away.
Opening this summer, Plainridge Park offers slot machines and live harness racing. Two major resort casino developments have been proposed by MGM and Wynn. The Mashpee tribe is also planning a casino in Taunton.
