Washington’s Tulalip Tribes have begun work on an expansion and renovation of the Tulalip Resort Casino, the casino’s second major enhancement since it opened in 2003.

Located 45 miles north of Seattle, Tulalip Resort Casino opened in 2003 with an initial investment of $78 million. Over the years, it has become a cornerstone of the Tulalip Tribes’ economic sovereignty. The expansion, announced in November, will add 70,250 square feet, increasing its total area to more than 262,000 square feet, an increase of nearly 37 percent. The Tulalip Resort property boasts a 12-story hotel with 370 guest rooms, meeting and convention spaces, a full-service spa, various dining options and a large amphitheater.

The project, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Tulalip Resort Casino and initially scheduled to begin by the end of 2023, faced a minor delay but is on track for completion by the end of 2025, Dan Miller, a tribe spokesman, confirmed. San Francisco’s Swinerton Construction, known for its work on several tribal casino projects in the region, is the general contractor. The architect is Rice Fergus Miller, a Bremerton company with a portfolio that includes various tribal projects.

“In keeping with our connection to our waters as the People of the Salmon, we will continue to tell our story through the new architectural features and visuals, a rich palate of colors, and the use of natural materials,” Marci Fryberg, president and chief operating officer of Tulalip Gaming Organization, said in a press release. “The expansion and renovation of Tulalip Resort Casino will set a new standard for quality and excellence among casino resort properties throughout the Pacific Northwest. [It] exemplifies our continued devotion to provide guests with all the comforts, amenities, and services one expects in a premier destination resort.”
