LAS VEGAS (AP) – A federal judge in Las Vegas is set to meet with prosecutors and defense attorneys who are awaiting her ruling whether undercover investigators illegally searched several Caesars Palace suites in a gambling ring investigation last summer.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen hasn’t indicated whether she’ll issue her decision during Thursday’s hearing in the case involving Malaysian businessman Wei Seng “Paul” Phua and his son, Darren Wai Kit Phua.
Leen said Dec. 18 she’d rule soon whether the Phuas’ rights were violated when state and federal agents disconnected Internet service and posed as Internet repairmen to get inside Caesars Palace hotel suites without a warrant.
Prosecutors say the Phuas were involved in a $13 million illegal Internet gambling ring.
Defense attorneys want the case against the two men thrown out.
