An overview of igaming revenue in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Connecticut, West Virginia, Delaware, and Rhode Island, the seven states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.

National

Total igaming revenue for June 2024 in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Michigan, Connecticut, West Virginia, Delaware, and (an estimated) Rhode Island added up to $625.3 million compared to $474.3 million in June 2023.

1. Pennsylvania

After four months in a row of $200 million in igaming revenue, Pennsylvania finished June with $195.6 million. Though it was the lowest monthly net revenue of the year, it still easily outpaced New Jersey and Michigan and it was nearly $60 million more than last year’s $135.4 million.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National led igaming revenue with $72.6 compared to $57.8 million, while Valley Forge Casino was a distant second with $46.3 compared to $28 million.

Total revenue from online slots came in at $119.4 compared to $98.2 million, while table games produced $39 million compared to $34.8 million. Online poker’s $2.2 million compared to $2.4 million in June 2023.

Tax revenue generated from June’s igaming revenue in Pennsylvania was $71.1 million compared to just under $59 million in the same period last year.

2. New Jersey

For the month of June, New Jersey reported internet-gambling win of $186.8 million compared to $149.3 million in June 2023. Through the first two quarters of the year, igaming won $1.13 billion compared to $930.8 million for the prior year-to-date period.

Golden Nugget continues its igaming hegemony with $51.5 million for the month compared to last year’s $41.8 million. Resorts Digital came in second as usual with $48.6 million compared to $35.6 million. Borgata brought up the top-three rear with $42.9 million compared to $39.4 million in June 2023.

New Jersey collected $28 million in online-gambling taxes in June compared to $22.4 million last year.

3. Michigan

Michigan’s igaming revenue totaled $183.2 million in June 2024 compared to $151 million year over year. Through the first two quarters of 2024, igaming revenue has already surpassed $1 billion in Michigan, $1.16 billion to be exact, compared to $935 million during the same period in 2023. It was also the seventh month in a row that igaming won more than $180 million in Michigan.

The 15 internet casinos paid a total of $34.4 million in taxes compared to $28.4 million in June 2023. Of the total, $21.3 million went to the state, $8.8 million to the city of Detroit, and $4.3 million to tribal governments.

4. Connecticut

In Connecticut, igaming earned $33.7 million for the month, the lowest total since last November, but up 33% over last year’s $26.7 million. DraftKings won $17.4 million, lowest since October, while FanDuel reported $16.2 million compared to $11.8 million last June.

The two companies paid their 18% in taxes to the Constitution State in June, which came to $6.1 million compared to $4 million year over year.

5. West Virginia

The Mountain State’s igaming revenue for June 2024 was $18.5 million compared to $10.8 million last year. The reporting period was 30 full days, including June 30, the last day of the fiscal year (West Virginia reports weekly). Last year’s reporting period was three days longer.

6. Delaware

Delaware’s June 2024 igaming net from Rush Street Interactive’s internet casino was $5 million compared to $1.1 million from 888’s underperforming asset last year. The more relevant comparison is to May 2024, when RSI won $3.9 million.

As always, online video lottery (slot) games accounted for the lion’s share of income at $3.5 million, while table games generated the other $1.5 million; the year-over-year comparisons are, essentially, meaningless. Online poker is still offline, with no word yet on when it might return.

7. Rhode Island

Rhode Island doesn’t report igaming revenue until the first week of the second month following the reporting period, in this case August. Bally’s, the sole operator, earned $2 million in April and $2.3 million in May; we’re using $2.5 million as an estimate for June. When the official number is reported, we’ll update.
