An overview of igaming revenue in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Connecticut, West Virginia, Delaware, and Rhode Island, the seven states where online gambling is legal in the U.S.
National
Total igaming revenue for July 2024 in New Jersey, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, West Virginia, Delaware, and (an estimate for) Rhode Island added up to $623.4 million compared to $482.6 million in July 2023, a leap of 25.5% year over year.
1. New Jersey
The igaming win in the Garden State reported by casinos and their partners in July 2024 was $195.4 million, reflecting growth of 25.9% compared to $155.2 million reported in July 2023.
Golden Nugget recorded the most igaming earnings at $53.5 million, up by a substantial 34.6%, followed by Resorts Digital’s $49 million, an increase of nearly 21%, and Borgata’s $47 million (+9.4%).
New Jersey collected $29.4 million in online-gambling taxes in July 2024 compared to $20.5 million year over year.
2. Michigan
Internet gaming in Michigan in July earned $191.4 million compared to $153.6 million in the previous period. It was the fourth highest igaming total in the state’s history.
Michigan’s 15 online-casino operators paid $36 million in igaming taxes compared to $28.7 million last year. Detroit’s three commercial casinos tendered $8.8 million to the city and the Native casinos ponied up $4.5 million to their tribes.
3. Pennsylvania
Pennsylvania’s online-casino games generated $174.3 million, up 31.2% from last year’s $129.9 million.
Total revenue from online slots accounted for $125.4 million compared to $94.8 million. Table games won $46.6 million compared to $35.4 million. Online poker’s $2.3 million was a drop from last year’s $2.6 million.
Penn National Gaming remains the market leader, garnering $64 million compared to $54.4 million, while second-place Valley Forge won $45.5 compared to $29.2 million.
Tax revenue generated from July igaming in Pennsylvania totaled $75.5 million compared to $57.3 million in July 2023.
4. Connecticut
Connecticut’s two main online-casino operators, DraftKings and FanDuel, in July earned $35.7 million from igaming as compared to $28.2 million in 2023.
Connecticut has two other igaming operators, the Mashantucket (Western) Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe On-Reservation, but even combined, their revenues are a rounding error.
All told, igaming earned Connecticut $6.3 million in taxes for the month compared to $5.1 million last year.
5. West Virginia
The Mountain State’s igaming revenue in July 2024 was $19.1 million compared to July 2023’s $14.4 million. It was the second-highest total in the state’s icasino history, second only to March 2024’s $20.7 million.
6. Delaware
Delaware igaming generated $5.2 million in July, exactly $4 million more than was earned in July 2023, continuing the juggernaut of Rush Street Interactive’s icasino.
Online video lottery (slot) games once again accounted for the lion’s share of income at $3.6 million, while table games generated $1.6 million, and comparisons to last year are irrelevant. The apples-to-apples RSI comps will start in January.
7. Rhode Island
Rhode Island’s igaming revenue, monopolized by Bally’s, soared to $2.3 million in June (Rhode Island reports in the first week of the second month, so July’s number will show up in September). It was $800,000 more than in May, up 3.5%, and the third monthly increase in a row. Online slots accounted for $1.8 million, up 8.1%, tables nearly $576,000, down 8.2%.
