ES1, a French TV channel developed by Webedia and dedicated to eSports, will begin broadcasting on December 1st.
In the meantime, the first gaming operator in France looks to be anticipating a change in legislation for paid bets around eSports competitions which are banned under the current French legal framework.
ES1 will be available firstly to Orange subscribers (Fiber and ADSL). As its name implies, ES1 will focus on eSport and video game competitions. The trailer suggests that Webedia will use the main animators from JV.TV, the Web TV of JeuxVideo.com.
The name of the site launched by the FDJ to bet on eSports is Parionsesport.fr.
It is already possible to bet on the results of competitions on Counter-Strike Go, Dota 2, Starcraft, League of Legends, Overwatch, Call of Duty or Hearthstone, the titles of the main jewels of the electronic scene in the world today. Prizes are non-cash for now.
The introduction of this new site should serve as a laboratory for more ambitious legislation in the coming years. But we can imagine that the FDJ will also stir up interest in the immediate future, and attract new customers to their brand.
