SEARCHLIGHT, Nev. (AP) – The 90-year-old woman who owns a casino in Harry Reid’s hometown of Searchlight has agreed to surrender her gambling license at the end of the year.
The move comes after Nevada Gaming Control Board regulators filed a seven-count complaint against Verlie May Doing last month, saying they found several violations of state rules at the Searchlight Nugget.
Investigators say Doing was maintaining and counting money from slot machines instead of a licensed slot machine operator. Inspectors also pointed out discrepancies in financial record-keeping, and said the door wasn’t closed on the count room while Doing counted coins.
Doing and her husband bought the casino in 1967.
It’s up for sale, although casino employees reached Friday couldn’t immediately say what would happen to the business after Doing surrenders her license.
