PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Rhode Island voters have approved a plan to bring casino table games to the Twin River slot parlor in Lincoln.
The referendum was passing by a more than three-to-one margin both statewide and in the town of Lincoln as the final votes were counted Tuesday night.
Owners of the slot parlor say table games will help them compete with casinos authorized in Massachusetts.
The first table games could be operating by summer. Expanded gambling is projected to raise $100 million for the state annually.
A second ballot question would authorize table games at the Newport Grand slot parlor. Casino referendums must be approved statewide and in their host communities to pass.
