When anyone is hired by a casino operator, there’s always a learning curve. They might not know what the terms “cage” or “pit” mean, and food and beverage training is nearly non-existent.
That’s why Deanna Scott, CEO of Raving, the native-owned gaming and hospitality firm, created training sessions for all aspects of the industry, Raving OnDemand.
“I think that the flexibility and the ability to have content created by a company that understands gaming is the biggest, exciting part,” Scott said during an interview with CDC Gaming. “It’s the thing that I think our clients are the most interested in. You find AI training, but it is not going to speak to the (gaming) industry, it’s not going to be personalized or customized, and it’s not going to sit well with your team.”
Designed to help with the onboarding of new team members or honing the skills of leaders, Raving OnDemand helps casinos, tribal and commercial, create a culture of performance, professionalism, and guest service excellence.
Scott notes that people learn in various ways; thus, Raving OnDemand will provide flexible content.
“With our programs we customize these trainings to the property,” Scott said. “And although we do the same business of creating a gaming experience, each property has a different way that they do that. We wanted to create something that had the ability to meet the specific needs of our guests.”
Scott notes that turnover is such a huge deal in the gaming industry, so “we wanted to make sure that there was a tool available for the properties that they could at least get their new hires onboarded with the type of education they would need to enter this new field of gaming.”
The classes are derived from Raving’s core principles of training that have been perfected over almost 30 years. Raving OnDemand will include player development, guest services, leadership, food and beverage.
“In addition to that, this system offers a full ecosystem, so that’s another thing that makes us different than other ‘platforms,’ Scott says. “People then get access to our content library, so all of the articles, the webinars, the round tables, and of course our conference content is accessible through this platform. We think of it as an ongoing learning portal where if you want to truly become a gaming professional, that you are going to constantly beginning exposed to what’s new, best practices, who’s who, technology, all of those things in one spot.”
Scott thinks that in the past, operators underestimated the learning curve necessary for new employees to work efficiently and effectively.
“We are looking at such a large turnover rate that we don’t always have time to focus on once they’re on board,” Scott said. “We just need to get them on the floor. Our hope is that this tool will support those efforts of the teams that are just trying to fill those spots.”
