TYRE, N.Y. (AP) – A proposed Finger Lakes casino is clearing local hurdles following a setback in court.
Lago Resort & Casino developers say they’re pleased that town officials in Tyre on Thursday night approved their development plan and adopted of a local law creating a special district for the project. The town still must consider the casino’s site plan and a community mitigation plan.
Work on the Lago site near the Thruway between Rochester and Syracuse was halted this summer after an appeals court faulted the way the town board determined that the project would have no significant adverse environmental impacts. So the town is re-doing its review.
Opponents claim the casino would create significant environmental impacts, and more lawsuits are possible.
Lago could be one of four new casinos in New York.
