ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) – New Jersey casino regulators have postponed a hearing on whether a national casino association can participate in the licensing process for the parent company of the PokerStars web site.
The Casino Control Commission was to hear arguments Wednesday from the American Gaming Association, which wants to be heard as to whether PokerStars should be permitted to buy Atlantic City’s Atlantic Club casino hotel.
The association opposes the purchases, accusing PokerStars of willfully violating U.S. law by taking illegal bets. PokerStars, which paid the government $547 million last year to settle a case in which it did not admit wrongdoing, says the opposition is really about brick-and-mortar casinos trying to keep a new type of competitor out of the market.
Commission chairman Matthew Levinson says more time is needed.
