LAS VEGAS (AP) – Plea deals are scheduled in Nevada federal court in an illegal Internet gambling case stemming from a disputed FBI raid at high-roller suites in Caesars Palace on the Las Vegas Strip.
Hearings are set Tuesday for three people to plead guilty to reduced charges, and Wednesday for two more. A sixth co-defendant is scheduled to have charges dismissed.
That’ll leave Wei Seng “Paul” Phua and his son, Darren Wai Kit Phua, to face trial on charges including operating an illegal gambling business during last summer’s World Cup soccer tournament.
The Phuas are headed to court next Monday to argue that federal agents violated their rights by enlisting hotel employees to obtain a crucial search warrant before arresting eight people July 13 in three exclusive Caesars villas.
