More than 100 organizations located in the Southern Tier region of New York recently were benefactors of grants from Tioga Downs Racetrack.
On November 28, Giving Tuesday, the gaming and track operator donated $1.5 million to the non-profit organizations during the Tioga Downs Regional Community Foundation’s annual awards ceremony at Tioga Downs Casino-Resort in Nichols, New York.
“Through the experiences shared by our award winners, we eagerly anticipate the ripple effects of these grants making a real difference close to home,” said Tioga Downs Owner Jeff Gural in a statement. “There are countless organizations doing amazing work, often without the budget they truly deserve, and these grants aim to amplify their impact.”
The organizations are in Chemung, Tioga, Broome, and Bradford counties and were selected for promoting initiatives that address local poverty and community deterioration. Recipients range from the Appalachian Library Association and the Candor Historical Society to Ithaca Neighborhood Housing Services and Tioga Fire Company No. 1.
Gural has pledged to increase grant funding to $2 million in 2024 and 2025.
