Nevada sportsbooks see big win increase in March, betting volume down 11%

Nevada sportsbooks saw their win increase 107% in March due to a big jump in hold percentage during a month dominated by March Madness, but handle was down sharply in what could be the impact of prediction markets.

The state’s sportsbooks won $46 million on a hold percentage of 6.0% versus 2.6% last year, according to the Nevada Gaming Control Board. Sportsbook wagers totaled $763 million, down 11.3% or $97.6 million compared to last March, when $860.6 million was wagered statewide.

Mobile wagers totaled $550.4 million, down 10.1% or $61.9 million, and accounted for 72.1% of all wagers.

Gaming analysts and sportsbook executives have feared that prediction markets are taking away handle from casinos ahead of Nevada winning a ban on what it deems as illegally operating companies like Kalshi in late March.

Shelley Newell, the Gaming Control Board’s senior economic analyst, released a detailed analysis breaking down the March numbers, in which the statewide win of $1.42 billion increased 11.8% or $150.3 million compared to March 2025.

The Strip’s total win of $780 million increased 14.4% ($98.4 million) versus March 2025.

When compared to March 2024, Nevada’s March 2025 gaming win decreased 1.1%, with the Las Vegas Strip’s gaming win decreasing by 4.8%.

All markets are up during the fiscal year in gaming win, with the exception of the North Shore Lake Tahoe market, down 8.9% in the fiscal year that ends on June 30.

The Strip’s games win of $351.7 million increased 34.2% or $89.7 million and drop totaled $2.3 billion and increased 10.6% or $224.4 million. Games hold percentage was 15.0% versus 12.4% last year.

Baccarat win on the Strip totaled $152.5 million and was up $79.2 million or 108%. The volume totaled $757.9 million is up 41.8% or $223.4 million, while hold was 20.1% versus 13.7%.

The Strip’s slot win totaled $428.3 million and increased 2.1% or $8.7 million and coin-in of $5.5 billion was up $242.7 million or 4.6%. The slot win percentage was 7.8% versus 8.0% last year.

Total win of $103.1 million in downtown Las Vegas increased 20.8% ($17.7 million). Slot win totaled $72 million and increased 18.9% ($11.4 million). Slot coin-in was up 1% ($7.2 million). Slot win percentage was 10.1% versus 8.6% last year. Game and table win totaled $31.1 million, up 25.4% ($6.3 million).

Games drop decreased 17.2% or $58.8 million on a hold of 11.0% versus 7.3% last year.

In North Las Vegas, total win of $26.6 million increased 0.1% ($32,000). Slot win totaled $24.4 million and increased 0.8% or $189,000. Volumes were down 6.5% or $21.6 million while old was 7.9% versus 7.3%.

On the Boulder Strip, a category that includes many locals casinos, total win of $98.9 million was up 14.7% ($12.7 million). Slot win was up 14% ($10.9 million). Slot coin-in was down 1.1% ($13.9 million). Slot hold was 7.3% versus 6.4%. Game and table win totaled $10.1 million up 21.8% ($1.8 million). Games volume was up 4.4% ($2.8 million) while was 15.3% versus 13.1%.

In the balance of Clark County, total win of $174.8 million was up 7.3% ($11.8 million). Game and table win totaled $33.8 million, up 5.1% ($1.6 million). Game volume was down 12.2% ($36.6 million), while hold was 12.8% versus 10.78%. Slot win totaled $141 million and was up 7.8% or $10.2 million. Volumes were down 1.4% or $29.8 million, while hold was 6.9% versus 6.3%.

In Mesquite, total win of $19.6 million was up 1.4% ($280,000). Slot win was up 1.9% ($332,000). Slot coin-in was down 1% ($2.5 million), while hold was 6.9% versus 6.8%.

In Laughlin, total win of $50.5 million was up 1.1% ($551,000). Slot win was up 2.3% ($1 million). Slot coin-in was down 3.2% ($18.2 million), while hold 8.6% versus 8.2%.

In Washoe County, total win of $87.8 million increased 7.3% ($6 million). Slot win increased 7.2% ($5.0 million). Slot coin-in totaled $1.4 billion and was up 6% ($81.5 million) versus February 2025, while hold was 5.2% versus 5.2% last year. Game and table win totaled $12.6 million, up 8.4% ($973,000). Games volume was down 7.4% ($6.7 million), while hold was 14.9% versus 12.7%.

Washoe County sportsbooks were up 29.3% Volumes were down 8.9% or $2.9 million on a hold percentage of 7.5% versus 5.3% last year.

In Reno, total win of $62 million increased 7.5% ($4.3 million). Slot win was up 7.5% or $3.5 million. Volumes were up 8.3% ($77.5 million) on a hold of 5.0% versus 5.1% last year. In Sparks, total win totaled $16.2 million and increased 8.7% ($1.3 million). Slot win totaled $15.2 million and increased 7.7% ($1.1 million). Coin-in increased 2.2% ($6.2 million). Hold was 5.2% versus 4.9% last year.

In the Carson Valley area, total win of $12.2 million increased 5.3% ($615,000). Slot win was up 3.4% ($390,0000). Slot coin-in was down 1.6% ($2.9 million). Slot hold percentage was 6.5% versus 6.2%.

In South Lake Tahoe, total win of $17.6 million increased 19.7% ($2.9 million). Slot win increased 32.6% ($3.3 million). Volume was up 5.3% ($8.6 million). Hold was 7.8% versus 6.2%.

In Elko, total win of $35.3 million decreased 4.8% ($1.8 million). Slot win decreased 5.5% ($1.8 million). Slot coin-in decreased 2.1% ($11.1 million). Slot hold was 5.8% versus 6.0%.
