LAS VEGAS (AP) – A federal judge heard more Tuesday about an FBI ruse used to arrest a Malaysian businessman, his son and six others in what prosecutors say was an illegal Internet sports gambling ring in high-roller suites on the Las Vegas Strip.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Peggy Leen said she’ll hear additional evidence Wednesday.
Prosecutors say Nevada Gaming Control Board Agent Ricardo Lopez will testify.
Lopez worked with FBI Agent Minh Pham, who has acknowledged failing to inform the magistrate judge who issued a search warrant in July that Internet service had been intentionally disabled to three Caesars Palace suites so agents posing as repair technicians could gain entry.
Defense Attorneys for Wei Seng Phua and his son, Darren Wai Kit Phua, want the case thrown out as tainted by an illegal search.
