MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) – Lawmakers are gathering in Montgomery to begin a special session on the possibility of creating a state lottery.
Gov. Robert Bentley on Monday morning issued a broad agenda for the session. It will focus on a lottery and any legislation that could provide money for Medicaid, infrastructure and debt payment.
Bentley is asking lawmakers to approve a state lottery. Lawmakers are also expected to debate a rival bill that would allow electronic gambling machines at state dog tracks.
Some legislative leaders say the bills face uncertain odds in a Legislature split over gambling.
Lawmakers are expected to debate possible uses of oil spill settlement funds.
The first business in the House of Representatives is the election of a new speaker.
The session begins at 4 p.m.
