ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (AP) — An art park in Atlantic City is being paved over to make way for a parking lot.
The Press of Atlantic City reports heavy machinery on Thursday flattened Artlantic, which was put up in 2012 at the former site of the Sands Casino Hotel.
An attorney for the property owner says the seven-acre site will become a parking lot. An Orlando-based developer wants to put up a 360-foot-tall vertical roller coaster on one acre of the former casino site.
The park featured large single-word signs on slanted, grassy mounds and had a half-buried pirate ship as its centerpiece.
Casino Reinvestment Development Authority Executive Director John Palmieri says the agency’s board of directors authorized the entity to spend up to $150,000 to take the art and earthwork down.
