The former city councilor for Scafati, Angelo Matrone, has again proposed limiting the use of slot machines in the morning, during the opening hours of the city’s schools, to prevent young people gambling away their pocket money.
Matrone addressed a letter to the Extraordinary Commission stating that he is waiting for an answer on the proposed regulation against gambling. Matrone was referring to an approved regulation aimed at limiting slot machine operating hours which, although it was approved, was never made executive and brought into force under the past administration. All of these measures were intended to prevent youngsters from choosing to gamble instead of going to school.
He emphasised that it is not a provocative or unrealistic proposal, considering that the mayor of Montesano on Marcellana, in the community of Vallo di Diano, signed an ordinance which from January allows the use of slot machines only from 1500 to 2300 hours each day.
