Foxwoods, Mohegan Sun post March declines in slots revenue

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) – Connecticut’s two tribal casinos have again reported falling revenue and slot machine bets in March as they vie to open a joint venture elsewhere in the state.

Foxwoods Resort Casino, owned by the Mashantucket Pequots, reported Wednesday that revenue was $40.4 million, a 9 percent drop from $44.6 million in March 2014. Slot machine bets of $507.5 million were down 10 percent.

Mohegan Sun reported revenue of $51.2 million, a drop of 1 percent from a year before. Slot machine bets of $611.7 million were down 2 percent.

The casinos are struggling with competitive pressure as gambling ramps up in the Northeast. Frequent snow storms also kept visitors away this winter.

The tribes hope to open a joint casino before a gambling resort opens just across the Massachusetts border in Springfield in 2017.
