NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) – The former Isle of Capri casino barge has left its docking place in Natchez.
The Natchez Democrat reports that the barge, which hosted the gambling hall until it closed last month, was towed upriver Friday while a small crowd observed its exit.
The replica of a riverboat has sat dockside in Natchez for decades. The casino was first owned by Lady Luck Corp., and then by St. Louis-based Isle of Capri since 2000. However, a Magnolia Bluffs Casino opened in 2012, cutting into Isle of Capri’s revenue. Isle of Capri generated $23 million in revenue from the Natchez casino in fiscal year 2015.
The Isle of Capri sold its Natchez hotel and certain other non-gambling assets to Casino Holding Investment Partners, the parent company of Magnolia Bluffs, for $11.5 million.
