The next time we see Nick Sortal’s byline in CDC Gaming, he might have a new title – Councilman.
Sortal, considered one of the most knowledgeable journalists on Florida gaming matters, tribal gaming, and regional casinos working today, is seeking election to the City Council in Plantation, Fla. He has decided to “take a sabbatical” to campaign full-time for the November election.

Sortal spent 35 years as a newspaper writer and editor, with 30 years dedicated to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
“The challenges I see are how to best spend our money, how to balance commercial growth without smothering the city and how to keep our residents safe,” Sortal wrote on his website. “And my experience as a journalist is invaluable. The No. 1 thing good journalists do is listen; we gather information from all sides, and we understand that issues have more than one point of view.”
