As monopoly owner of all the historical horse racing machines (HHRs) in Virginia, Churchill Downs was the sole beneficiary of last month’s increase in revenue from the devices. Win rose one percent to $143.7 million in September.

With 1,651 terminals averaging $257 a day, The Rose near Dumfries was Churchill Downs’s largest single contributor, with $12.7 million. It was edged by all Richmond-area Rosie’s slot parlors, which brought in $12.8 million (or $365 per day), a 12.2 percent year-over-year increase. Churchill Downs added 86 HHR to the Richmond market in September.

Hampton-area Rosie’s parlors slipped 4.9 percent to bring in $8 million (averaging $382 a day), while Colonial Downs fell 10 percent to $4.2 million, its HHR winning $291 per day on average. The Emporia Rosie’s, with $150 terminals, returned $2 million or $436 per slot per day, the highest average in the Cavalier State.

Rosie’s in Vinton scored $4.4 million, its terminals averaging $311 daily, while Colinsville saw $267 on average per day but only a $300,000 gross, as receipts fell 11.5 percent. The Rosie’s in Roseshire, with 175 terminals, made $500,000 off 175 HHR.
