Cayugas reopen dormant bingo hall in central NY (AP)

UNION SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) — The Cayuga Indian Nation says it has reopened a bingo hall in central New York eight years after shutting down in the middle of a dispute with local authorities.

The tribe tells local media outlets it resumed bingo and pull-tab games Wednesday at the small facility in the Cayuga County village of Union Springs, 31 miles southwest of Syracuse.

The Cayugas have opposed the recent agreement between the state and the Oneida nation giving that tribe exclusive gambling rights in the region, a deal similar to those reached with the Seneca and Mohawk nations in other parts of the state.

The Syracuse Post-Standard reports (http://bit.ly/169oLJV ) it isn’t clear if the opening violates the Oneida’s franchise, because the agreement doesn’t prevent Indian bingo halls and charitable games of chance.
