FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Police have raided a Fayetteville bubble tea business that authorities say was a front for an illegal video gambling operation.
Fayetteville police tell local media that the owner of the Bubble Tea & Bakery Cafe, 66-year-old Wing Nie has been charged with felony operating more than five video-gambling machines.
According to a search warrant affidavit, Capt. D. Whitaker was in uniform on Oct. 1 when he walked into the business without being questioned and found 10 video gambling machines inside.
Authorities say the machines were not hidden and only a few packaged items were in the food display area.
Once Whitaker discovered the machines and evidence of an illegal gambling operation, a search warrant was obtained.
It is unclear whether Nie has an attorney. No one else has been charged.
