The Menominee Tribe’s proposed Kenosha casino faces one less hurdle.
A federal agency reviewing gaming compacts has rejected an amendment to an agreement for the Forest County Potawatomi that would have reduced future payments to the State of Wisconsin and extended new terms indefinitely.
The U.S. Department of the Interior, in a ruling late last month, rejected the Potawatomi’s proposed amended compact, which the DOI viewed as an attempt to hinder progress for other tribes — in this case the Menominee — from developing gaming facilities within 30-50 miles from Milwaukee.
The Menominee tribe has proposed a $360 million casino and entertainment complex in Kenosha on a 60-acre property just west of Interstate 94.
