State gaming regulators told attorneys for the historic Greenbrier resort Friday that its casino can legally remain open while a major ownership change is reviewed, provided the company takes immediate steps to insulate incoming board members from day-to-day operations.
The guidance comes as the Justice family faces mounting financial pressures involving the resort, including new federal tax liens totaling more than $8 million and uncertainty surrounding the jobs of about 90 casino employees. The West Virginia Democratic Party said the family has announced plans to close The Casino Club at The Greenbrier and lay off the workers amid an ongoing dispute involving a roughly $500 million refinancing deal.
