In Africa, “operators are stronger than the regulators” says Ladipo Abiose, founder of GamblePause. For this reason, he tells NEXT.io, cross-jurisdiction efforts are needed to effectively combat gambling harms.
GamblePause has recently become registered in Zambia and is working in partnership with GamAid Zambia. And this is just one example of the Nigeria-based non-profit reaching out into different regions.
“What we realized is that a lot of the organizations are working in silos, and because responsible gaming is new to the continent, we need each other on this journey,” Abiose said.
The organization is doing the same with Namdef in Namibia, and pursuing registrations in Tanzania, Cameroon and Malawi as part of its attempt to bring the whole continent under one umbrella as the African Responsible Gaming Network.
