All bets are on for a casino in Petersburg … at least now.
By a 9-4 vote, the Senate General Laws & Technology Committee agreed Wednesday to send House legislation establishing a November casino referendum in Petersburg to the Senate Finance & Appropriations Committee, the place where its Senate companion bill died by one vote earlier this month. That bill, however, had an amendment on it that would have required the casino developer to guarantee the same wages be paid to employees within similar work fields.
The one approved Tuesday by General Laws does not, but that’s not due to a lack of trying.
