A “totally different climate” awaits the renewed push for Petersburg’s casino dreams when the Virginia General Assembly convenes Wednesday in Richmond, according to the co-sponsor of the measure that came up short the last two sessions.

Part of that is politically driven, Del. Kim Taylor said, because the Democrats who opposed it now own narrow control of both the House of Delegates and the Senate. The other part is personality-driven – the chief patron of that legislation its last two times at bat is no longer in the game.

Both parts puzzle the Republican delegate as she heads into her second term in the House. Particularly the personal aspect of it.
