The Administrative Court in Linköping has overturned an SEK8m [$851,000] fine imposed on LeoVegas-owned Roar Vegas by the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA), ruling the operator did not commit a sufficiently clear breach of its duty of care obligations to justify regulatory action.
Roar Vegas was handed the penalty fee in March last year. The regulator found three of the operator’s customers displayed multiple indicators of excessive gambling, including high deposit limits, lengthy sessions and substantial losses over short periods.
While the operator imposed effective restrictions, the SGA said it relied too heavily on automated responsible gambling messages. It also argued that the operator failed to escalate interventions quickly enough when those measures proved ineffective.
