The Swedish Supreme Administrative Court has upheld penalties issued by the Swedish Gambling Authority (SGA) to Kindred Group, ComeOn Group, and Mr Green.

The court rejected the companies’ requests to appeal previous decisions made by the regulator, marking the end of a long-running dispute for Kindred Group’s subsidiary, Spooniker.

That penalty originated in 2020, when the SGA imposed an initial SEK100m [$9.1m] fine after determining that promotions offered to customers in March 2019 violated the Swedish Gambling Act. Under Swedish law, operators can only offer bonuses to customers upon their first sign-up.

Kindred argued that additional promotions offered to customers were not bonuses but instead “in-game mechanics” without financial incentives.
