Rochester area residents will soon have a new travel option. Southwest Airlines will add nonstop service between the Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport and the Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas.
According to the airport, the service is set to start in October and will mark the first nonstop service between the two cities in 16 years, since 2008.
The flight between Rochester to Las Vegas will operate four times each week — on Sunday, Monday, Thursday and Friday — starting Oct. 3. Each flight will operate on a 175-seat 737-8, according to a news release from Monroe County Executive Adam Bello. The new service will add more than 700 seats per week between Rochester and Las Vegas.
