A solar array may soon begin generating energy at Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort, after state regulators on Thursday unleashed harsh words on the electrical utility standing in the project’s way.
The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission voted unanimously that Minnesota Valley Cooperative Light and Power Association’s threat to cut power to the casino because of the solar project was unlawful, siding with the Upper Sioux Community in an unusual conflict between a Dakota tribe and its local electric provider.
Minnesota Valley had argued the Upper Sioux Community’s proposed solar project was too big and violated the utility’s policies, as well as state and federal law.
