The dispute between the Upper Sioux Community and its electrical supplier over a solar array to help power Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort has taken an unexpected turn.
After asking the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission to allow Xcel Energy to become the power supplier for Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort and other tribal operations, the Upper Sioux Community asked an administrative law judge to stay the request.
It is too expensive and would require too much time for Xcel to develop a line to provide power to the location of the community’s tribal operations. As a result, the community is not looking to have Xcel Energy as the power supplier, according to a motion filed by the attorney representing the community, Joshua Peterson of Faegre Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP, Minneapolis.
