A shooting inside a popular Lake Tahoe area hotel and casino left one man dead and prompted a massive police response Saturday morning.

According to Douglas County Sheriff Daniel Coverley, deputies were called to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Lake Tahoe around 8 a.m. Saturday on reports of an active shooter.

Deputies found one man who had been shot in the head at a bar inside the Stateline casino. First responders took the man, identified as Omar Garcia, to a hospital where he later died.

As many as 100 officers from eight law enforcement agencies descended upon the scene as the hotel and casino went into a lockdown, a hotel representative said.
