Seven months after it was originally planned, the Scotts Valley Band of Pomo Indians’ smaller preview casino opened to invited customers only on Friday morning in Vallejo.

The limited gaming, amidst ongoing litigation, comes nearly four months after the Vallejo City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the tribe and the city. A decision by the U.S. Department of the Interior is expected by the end of July on whether or not the tribe can build a larger casino in the same area near the intersection of Interstate 80 and Highway 37.

The larger casino would include 24 single-family residences, a tribal administration building, a parking garage, and a 45-acre biological preserve area.
