Pennsylvania is still the kind of place where the lasting local things are the most important.
In small towns, and even in big cities, there are corner bars, Elks or Moose lodges, and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts where people gather and talk about the events of the day. Sometimes it’s swapping opinions on what’s in the national news, and sometimes it’s speculation about how good (or bad) the local high school football team might be this fall.
These places are at the centers of countless communities across the Commonwealth, and they serve as refuges, where people can laugh about old memories and make new ones, while the outside world is someplace else.
