New York City’s Times Square, aptly named “The Crossroads of the World” for more than 100 years, attracts hundreds of thousands of tourists, commuters, workers, and theatergoers every day. As a renowned destination, it is anchored by its massive subway system, its famed Broadway theaters, and a historically strong and collaborative private sector focus on public safety — a focus that I helped to lead first as the New York City Transit police chief in the early 1990′s and twice as NYPD commissioner in 1994 and again in 2014.

Times Square benefitted from a consistent decline in crime and disorder for almost thirty years, helping New York claim the title “America’s Safest Large City.”
