The Ontario Provincial Police are investigating Jontay Porter’s betting activities, a spokesperson has confirmed.
The OPP’s Investigation and Enforcement Bureau concluded that “a criminal investigation was warranted” following its own assessment of alleged online wagering irregularities involving two Raptors games this year.
The NBA banned the Raptors forward for life after its own probe concluded that he disclosed confidential information to known sports bettors: limiting his playing time on purpose and wagering on NBA games, including on his team to lose.
“The OPP IEB is aware of the ongoing criminal investigation being conducted by federal authorities in the U.S.A. and will be connecting with them as our investigation moves forward,” OPP spokesperson Robert Simpson wrote in an email to the Star.
