With a new session underway for the Oklahoma Legislature, there is the annual avalanche of bills through which to sift, and within it are the latest stabs at allowing the state’s Native tribes to offer sportsbook gaming.

Sportsbook, or “betting on games,” has been suggested by lawmakers in previous sessions, but such measures have not come to floor votes; instead disappearing into committee or being withdrawn.

Author of one new measure, Senate Bill 125, is State Sen. Dave Rader, R-Tulsa and a former college football coach and University of Tulsa quarterback. There is also SB 164, authored by State Sen. Casey Murdock, R-Felt, who has previously filed legislation to legalize sportsbook.
