If you want to place bets on any NCAA women’s basketball games in Oklahoma, you’re out of luck.
One legislator who is fighting to make sports betting legal says that while this legislation is supported, certain arrangements need to be made before leaders feel confident passing it to the Senate floor. Senator Bill Coleman is the Senate author of House Bill 1027, a bill that would legalize sports gambling in Oklahoma.
In 2023 HB1027 passed in the House and made it into the rules committee.
“It’s been sitting there ever since,” said Coleman. Coleman says that while this bill has a lot of support from legislators, it didn’t progress from the rules committee because there’s a lack of an agreement between the state and tribes on how sports gambling would work in Oklahoma.
