The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa has purchased land along the southwest edge of Grand Forks with hopes of building a casino, reigniting a conversation that has been happening in Grand Forks for at least 20 years.
The tribe’s proposal is laid out in a document that will be presented during the Monday, Jan. 27, meeting of the Committee of the Whole. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
According to the document, the tribe owns a 146-acre parcel of land “within the county and southwest of the current city of Grand Forks.” The tribe desires an economic development zone for the area. The land is located on the west side of Interstate 29, near the existing Grand Forks Campground.
