Monday, the Grand Forks City Council approved a letter of intent from the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa. The proposal is to begin developing plans for a casino along I-29.
As Valley News Live first reported, the casino would have more than 200 hotel rooms, and conference and entertainment centers. It would also be a class III casino, with project leaders describing it as “Las Vegas Style.” Those are just some of the things that could find their way to tribal-owned land by the Grand Forks campground.
“The target customer base will be the Canadian visitor. As we know, that dollar is driving right by the city of Grand Forks right now. This plan, when you break it all down, is to drop that net and capture that dollar before it drives through the city of Grand Forks. But, before it drives out of this county,” said Tribal Chairman Jamie Azure.
