The Grand Forks City Council on Monday approved a letter of intent with the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa for the band’s proposed casino and event complex.
The council voted 4-2 to move forward and continue discussions on the project, with Rebecca Osowski and Ken Vein dissenting and Dana Sande absent. Sande had supported the letter at a committee meeting last week. Approving the letter of intent is one of the first hurdles to any future casino that will likely still take two to three years to come to fruition.
The letter of intent, which is nonbinding, lays out the role that the city has in helping move the project forward and its role in any future facility.
