New York: Tragic barn blaze kills 17 horses at Saratoga racetrack

A devastating early morning fire broke out at the Saratoga Casino Hotel Harness Track, resulting in the tragic loss of several horses.

According to NEWS10, the fire is believed to have ignited around 2:30 a.m. in a barn situated in the backstretch of the harness racetrack. Despite firefighters’ response, the blaze engulfed the structure, resulting in its complete destruction.

The Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association posted on their Facebook page that the death toll rose to 17 horses.

“This is a sobering day in our industry, a horseperson’s worst nightmare. We express our deep condolences to all impacted and thank all emergency responders and track workers for their quick response,” Henry Westbrook, Jr, President Saratoga Harness Horsepersons Association said in the Facebook post.
