Senator Joseph Addabbo filed a bill (SB 9226) Tuesday that would legalize online poker in New York.
The bill would bring up to 10 online poker operators to New York, with licenses costing $10 million and lasting 10 years. The bill calls for a 15% tax rate, and the New York State Gaming Commission would regulate New York’s online poker market.
Addabbo’s bill was referred to the Senate’s Racing, Gaming, and Wagering Committee. New York’s legislative session spans through June 6.
Earlier this session, Addabbo hoped to legalize numerous forms of online gambling in New York, including mobile casino apps. The effort to legalize online casinos in New York was unsuccessful, although the topic will likely come up again during the 2025 legislative session.
